Transfer Ta'Lon Cooper Announces His Decision
Per a report from On3's Joe Tipton, portal guard Ta'Lon Cooper has committed to Lamont Paris and the South Carolina Gamecocks, making him the first transfer portal addition for coach Paris in this cycle. The 6'4" point guard is a product of Dorman High School in Dorman, South Carolina, a well-known basketball program that has produced some of the best hoopers in the state. Ta'Lon helped Dorman win back-to-back state championships in his time with the team.
Ta'Lon would then start his college career at Morehead State University, where he played in 96 games for MSU and averaged 8.5 points, 4.8 assists, and 3.4 rebounds per game. In 2022, Ta'Lon transferred to Minnesota, where he spent this past year and was ranked 7th in the country in assists, starting in 31 games for Minnesota, averaging 9.8 points, 6.3 assists, four rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game.
South Carolina is getting an experienced point guard who is a do-it-all player. After the departure of Chico Carter Jr., I would project Ta'Lon Cooper to be the starting point guard next year, with Meechie Johnson Jr. alongside him at the shooting guard position.
