The most significant recruiting battle for the Gamecocks this offseason has been over five-star DE Dylan Stewart, one of the highest-touted players in the class of 2024. Ranking as the top player in the class of 2024 according to On3, Stewart has garnered the attention of some of the most prestigious programs in the nation. Yet, the Gamecocks have remained steadfast in their top positioning amongst the schools on Stewart's list.

While talking with The Spurs Up Show, On3 Recruiting Expert J.D. PicKell explained Stewart's recruiting process, telling the show he expects Stewart will commit later than many of his counterparts. PicKell suggested he may wait until December for the early signing period to make his decision. J.D. also told the show that Stewart said he has the best relationship with South Carolina's coaching staff.

Above all else, relationships are king in recruiting. Players want to go where they are wanted and feel comfortable, which is the culture Head Coach Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks' coaching staff have been cultivating. Recruiting will always be a tough battle, especially for a recruit with talent like Stewart, but this should serve as a major sign of optimism for South Carolina.

The Gamecocks' 2024 recruiting class is shaping up to be one of the best classes in school history. Adding Stewart would further solidify the Gamecocks' class as the best in school history. Stewart will be in Columbia in a few weeks for his official visit to South Carolina. With time dwindling in his recruitment; the Gamecocks must capitalize on having Stewart in the building.
