Dylan Stewart Named No. 1 Prospect In 2024 Class By On3
Shane Beamer and South Carolina's football coaching staff have been among the best in college football over the past nine months in recruiting blue-chip offensive and defensive linemen to Columbia. In terms of the defensive side of the ball, Beamer and his assistants have brought in edge defenders like Desmond Umeozulu and Monteque Rhames, along with athletic interior defensive linemen like Elijah Davis and Xzavier McLeod.
Due to varying circumstances, however, the edge position remains extremely thin in terms of depth in Clayton White's defense, so the Gamecocks will have to follow up their terrific performance last cycle with another one, and the biggest part of that plan could end up being Washington, D.C. native Dylan Stewart. Stewart is an edge defender with both the tangibles and intangibles coaches seek in edge rushers, as he possesses great length, rare explosiveness, and a willingness to continue pursuing ballcarriers until the play is over.
From what he's shown on the gridiron already, Stewart has built an elite reputation amongst those in the recruiting service industry. Still, with some recent changes from one particular company, his evaluation has only become more iron-clad. Dylan Stewart was listed as the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2024 class after On3 updated their rankings on Monday.
Regarding what makes Stewart a special player for Friendship Collegiate Academy, his head coach Michael Hunter hinted at Dylan's work ethic when talking to On3's Director of Recruiting, Chad Simmons.
"He's a very hard worker," Hunter said. "He works with us. Then he always gets some extra work outside of team workouts. He's a great kid. He doesn't cause any trouble."
The South Carolina Gamecocks have been noted as one of the strongest contenders in Stewart's recruitment to this point, as the high school junior product has already visited Shane Beamer and the program five different times, including one such visit where he was on tap for Carolina's blow out win over the Tennessee Volunteers. The staff has already landed one freak athlete out of the D.C. area in Nyckoles Harbor, and while landing Dylan Stewart won't be easy, the Gamecocks have to like where they stand at this point in his recruitment.
