ICYMI: KingJoseph Edwards Includes Gamecocks In Top 8
While South Carolina's Football program has reeled in a ton of talent at different spots for the 2024 recruiting class, one area that could be improved in terms of commitments is the defensive line unit. The Gamecocks are heavily in the game and might still lead for 5-star edge rusher Dylan Stewart, who would bring a massive jolt of pass-rushing juice to the team should he join the program.
Another name that resurfaced recently is KingJoseph Edwards, a Georgia native who visited the program several times earlier this year. While Edwards hasn't been to Columbia since the Garnet and Black Spring game took place on April 15th, that doesn't mean the Gamecocks have been out of mind for the rising senior.
In fact, KingJoseph made it known to Phil Kornblut earlier this month that the Gamecocks were the leaders in his recruitment at this point. So, it was no surprise that on Monday morning, when Edwards released his Top 8 schools, South Carolina was included.
The other teams that comprised KingJoseph's Top 8 were Alabama, Georgia, Florida State, Tennessee, TCU, Texas, and Oklahoma. This recruitment is vital for the Gamecocks for a couple of different reasons: Edwards would help to address a specific position of need, and South Carolina, if they land him, would add a feather in their cap against some of their SEC counterparts on the recruiting trail.
