On Thursday, South Carolina added a walk-on transfer from Pittsburgh and Palmetto state native, Buddy Mack III, to the roster, adding depth to the safety position. As a four-year player, his walk-on status for the final year is a strategic move. While not expected to play extensively in 2024, Buddy Mack can still fill out a serviceable role in the defensive secondary.

The potential impact goes beyond the visible playing time; Mack, a seasoned ACC player, could serve as a highly valuable scout team member. Going against the first-team offense every day, he could provide crucial looks to aid player development of young skill players like a Nyckoles Harbor. Buddy Mack's contribution might also manifest into a role on some of Pete Lembo's special team units.

Looking back at his four years at Pitt, Buddy Mack's stats include 11 solo tackles, 6 assists, and a total of 17 tackles across 27 games played. As seen in the past, walk-ons can make notable contributions, and Buddy Mack seems poised to follow suit, leaving an impact that extends beyond the stat sheet.
