In-State QB Will Wilson On His South Carolina Offer: "It Hit Different"
After having remained relatively quiet in terms of recruiting quarterbacks for the 2025 recruiting class, the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for South Carolina's Football program, Dowell Loggains, made some noise on Thursday night when he dispensed three different offers. One of those offers will produce more of a sentimental feeling for Gamecock fans, as the new play-caller offered Richland Northeast quarterback and Columbia, SC native Will Wilson.
According to his Hudl account, Wilson passed for 1,797 yards, rushed for another 705 yards, and accounted for 28 total touchdowns in his sophomore campaign. While already the recipient of multiple Power 5 offers, Will conveyed to me in a conversation yesterday that his offer from South Carolina felt different compared to the other ones he's gotten.
"It means a lot to be offered by the hometown team and also a big-time SEC school. Growing up with that school being the one that's always in news and it being 20 mins from [my] house makes it hit different."
While not growing up a fan of any particular team, Will has been paying close attention to what's been going on with South Carolina since Shane Beamer's arrival in the 2020 offseason and has been left very impressed by what the Palmetto state native has been able to do so far.
"The culture under Coach Beamer is definitely changing in the right direction. I'm excited to watch what the future holds for them."
One thing that Shane Beamer and his coaching staff pride themselves on when it comes to recruiting is building genuine relationships with prospects they target and being honest about where they see them fitting into their plans. Based on the words of the rising junior, Coach Loggains has done every bit of that so far in his recruitment.
"My relationship with Coach Loggains is good. He stated his intentions from when he first spoke with me and stuck to his word."
Will has already visited the program on two different occasions in the past seven months. Now that he's officially received an offer, it's safe to assume that he'll likely be making a return trip soon.
