Former Stanford Star Christian McCaffrey Breaks Record Held By NFL Legend Jerry Rice
In Sunday's win over the Detroit Lions, San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey made history yet again.
His first touchdown of the game, which he powered in from a couple of yards out in the second quarter, was a historic one. While at that time it marked their lone score of the first half it also was his 24th total touchdown of the season, which was enough to move him past 49ers and NFL legend, Jerry Rice, for the most touchdowns in a season (including playoffs) for a 49ers player according to CBS.
McCaffrey played a pivotal role in the 49ers coming back from down 24-7 at halftime, and ended up adding another score later in the game. San Francisco ended up winning by a score of 34-31, which means they will meet up with the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl where McCaffrey will square off with fellow former Cardinal Justin Reid.
If San Francisco does in fact win, McCaffrey will get his first ring and will also make more history, as he and his father Ed would become the second father-son duo to win titles for the same team. As for how long Rice's record stood, he racked up 23 touchdowns back in 1987.

In terms of other history that McCaffrey has achieved this year, he tied Lenny Moore for the most consecutive games in NFL history with a touchdown (17). He also became the first 49er player since the 1950s to win the NFL Rushing title, while also tying Marshall Faulk for the most games in a career with a receiving and rushing touchdown
