Aggies Basketball Lands UMass Big Man Wildens Leveque Via Transfer Portal

The Aggies add another big man for their front court with former Minutemen center Wildens Leveque.

Texas A&M continues to build for its future on the hardwood by targeting talent via the transfer portal. Consider the penultimate date before fireworks explode in the American sky as another promising moment for Aggie basketball.

Former University of Massachusetts big man Wildens Leveque verbally committed to the A&M men’s basketball team Monday via his Twitter account. Leveque will have one year of eligibility remaining as a grad transfer heading into the 2023-24 season.

Experience stands out for Leveque, who's played in 108 games with 52 starts across four seasons. The 6-10 senior began his career at South Carolina (2019-21) before transferring to UMass the previous spring.

During his lone year with the Minutemen, Leveque started in 25 games and averaged 19.7 minutes per contest. He averaged 5.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 41.3 percent from the field.

Leveque, known for his size rather than range, averaged 16.7 percent from the 3-point line. He was, however, one of the Minutemen's top free-throw shooters, averaging 75.6 percent from the line.

The Aggies are coming off one of their best seasons since joining the Southeastern Conference in 2012 with a 25-10 overall record. A&M finished 15-3 in conference play, winning eight of its last 10 regular season contests, picking up victories over Auburn, then-No. 11 Tennessee, and then-No. 2 Alabama.

From a veteran standpoint, A&M should be in exceptional hands to make another deep run to the NCAA Tournament under Buzz Williams. The Aggies return all their significant contributors, minus senior guard Dexter Dennis, who ran out of eligibility last season after joining the roster from Wichita State.

Leveque becomes the third transfer to join Williams' squad since A&M's first-round loss to No. 10-seed Penn State in March Madness. He joins former Middle Tennessee State guard Eli Lawrence, and University of Illinois-Chicago guard Jace Carter, both of whom are expected to be Day 1 contributors off the bench.
