Texas A&M Men's Basketball Lands In Way-Too-Early Top 25
The Texas A&M Aggies made the NCAA Tournament for the first time in five years in 2023, losing to Penn State in the Round of 64.
However, it set the precedent that Aggies men's basketball is a tournament team under head coach Buzz Williams, who recently got approved for a contract extension through 2028. As Texas A&M returns four of its top-five scorers from a season ago, ESPN's Jeff Borzello dropped the Aggies two spots to 19th in his way-too-early top-25 rankings for the 2023-24 men's basketball season.
"Will the Aggies pick up where they left off in the second half of 2022-23, when they won 19 of 22 games before falling in the SEC championship game and the first round of the NCAA tournament?" Borzello wrote. "Having Wade Taylor IV back to run the show is a huge plus, while Buzz Williams also has three other returning starters after Tyrece Radford decided to come back. Dexter Dennis is the lone starter leaving, but transfers Jace Carter (UIC) and Eli Lawrence (Middle Tennessee) will help replace him."
Taylor, a reigning First Team All-Southeastern Conference selection, led the Aggies last season with 16.5 points per game on 40.6 percent.
Texas A&M has won at least 25 in each of the past two seasons, something it hasn't done since the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons. The Aggies have never won 25 games in three-consecutive seasons in program history.
