Texas A&M women's basketball 6-4 freshman forward Janiah Barker has been named as a finalist for the 2023 USA Women's AmeriCup Team.
Barker is one of five finalists who will compete for the final four roster spots as announced on Sunday. Those five finalists will attend training camp in Colorado Springs, CO starting June 22 in preparation for the 2023 FIBA Women's AmeriCup that begins July 1 in León, Mexico.
Barker is one of just three players of the eight team members under the age of 20 and has already won a gold medal at the 2019 U16 FIBA Americas U16 Championship and in 2021 at the FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup. The native of Marietta, GA also participated in the 2018 USA U17 World Cup Team Trials.
Barker was the only freshman in the SEC to lead her team in scoring, as she paced the Aggies with 12.7 points per game. She was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team although missing 10 games due to an injury. She also won conference Player of the Week two times.
After recovering from injury, Baker found a career-high 24 points while shooting 10-for-11 from the field in a big 75-73 win over Georgia. During the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament, Baker scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds against Ole Miss.
