Former NFL and College Coach Herm Edwards Links Ole Miss Rebels' Lane Kiffin to Texas A&M Aggies Job
Since the ouster of former Aggies coach Jimbo Fisher on Sunday, rumors about his possible replacement are flying. Analysts and fans alike have offered opinions about who should take over beginning in 2023.
Former college and NFL head coach Herm Edwards is no different, he offered up a curious solution for the A&M head coaching vacancy during an appearance on ESPN's "Monday Blitz" a day after the firing. In Edwards' mind, current Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin would be an outstanding fit for the Aggies.
"Well he’s been in that conference, he understands how to deal with the people there right? He’s good, he’s brash, he’s confident, he brings in an offense that can score points," Edwards said. "It’s just a matter of now the ability to recruit players and guess what, now you can recruit them because you have this new system of recruiting, it’s called you can actually pay the players."
It's not the first time Kiffin has been linked to a rival SEC school's coaching vacancy in his short time at Ole Miss. Last year, he was linked to the Auburn job. On Monday, Kiffin was asked about his name being linked to the Aggies.
"I’m not going there again," he told reporters.
Kiffin has the Rebels on a roll this season at 8-2 with remaining games against Louisiana-Monroe and Mississippi State - who fired its coach, Zach Arnett, on Monday. If it wins out, Ole Miss would hit the 10-win mark for the second time in Kiffin's four-year tenure. He has an all-time mark of 31-15 with the Rebels.
