Aggies 2024 QB Commit Anthony Maddox Reveals His 'Game-Changing' Traits
The Texas A&M Aggies took a major step in securing their future at quarterback after snagging a commitment from 2024 Oak Grove (Hattiesburg, MS) four-star quarterback Anthony Maddox Jr. on Monday.
Despite not being the most decorated signal-caller in his class, Maddox Jr. clearly has some traits that the Aggies and coach Jimbo Fisher couldn't ignore during their recruitment of him.
And in an exclusive interview with AllAggies.com, Maddox Jr. revealed some of what the coaches saw in him during the recruiting process.
"Just being able to improvise when the play breaks down, knowing what to do with the ball, make quick decisions and galvanizing the team together and just help those guys to play as a unit," he told AllAggies.com. "When you play like that, it just makes for a special moment."
From the A&M coaching staff's point of view, Maddox is a "game-changer."
"I'm a game-changer in their eyes and I have the confidence of anybody ... and those were really the traits that they saw in me," he said.
Maddox is now set to join an A&M offense that just hired Bobby Petrino as its new offensive coordinator. Both Fisher and Petrio have coached some elite quarterbacks in their day, many of whom Maddox has looked at for inspiration.
"Man, it's an honor, to be honest," Maddox said. "I grew up watching Lamar Jackson, Jameis Winston, E.J. Manuel, Teddy Bridgewater and guys like that, and I just really tried to mold my game after them."
Maddox will still have a lot of learning to do as he prepares for the collegiate ranks. But considering the level he's already at, this could be a scary-good sight.
"I'm just blessed for the opportunity that they looked at me as such, and I'm looking forward to getting up there soon," he said.
