Aggies Coach Jimbo Fisher High On College Football Hot Seat Rankings
Texas A&M Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher arrived in College Station in 2018 with lofty expectations. Four seasons removed from a BCS National Championship with Florida State, Fisher brought with him a winning attitude and a winning record.
Fisher was supposed to put A&M back on the college football map and make the Aggies relevant in the SEC.
Things have not gone according to plan, although it can be argued the Aggies are more relevant now than they have been in recent years. Especially if relevance is determined by controversy.
CBS Sports offered its list of 2023 college football hot seat rankings, and you guessed it, Fisher was listed at No. 5.
"Texas A&M entered the 2022 season with high expectations after bringing in the nation’s No. 1-ranked recruiting class, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Ranking. However, the Aggies missed out on a bowl game for the first time since 2008 with a 5-7 record.
"Although Fisher’s hefty buyout raises questions about whether Texas A&M would actually move on from him, improvement will be necessary to stop the calls for his job. He took a big step by bringing in Bobby Petrino as offensive coordinator, but eyes are on a rebound in College Station this year."
A&M finished last season at 5-7 and just 2-6 in SEC play. But Fisher's tenure in College Station should not be considered to be in jeopardy due to the hefty buyout of his contract. He's got arguably some of the best talent around, and his defenses are feared throughout the league.
Interestingly, Fisher seems to be the one holding Fisher back with his lack of quarterback play, which was considered one of his strengths. Fisher has now turned the offense over to Bobby Petrino and if things click internally, it might be laughable that he even appeared on this list.
