The heat is on. And we don't just mean pressure to perform well by a Texas A&M Aggies football program that went 5-7 (2-6 SEC) last season. It's also just plain hot outside. And now, a little relief for the Aggies for preseason practice with a newer and larger facility.

The university has completed and opened the doors of the new Coolidge Football Performance Center, located on the campus of Texas A&M. The new practice facility features a 160-yard field, an elevated observation area, a dedicated space for sports medicine and strength and conditioning, direct access to the Bright Football Complex and Coolidge Outdoor Practice Fields and an outdoor plaza facing Kyle Field. The new facility replaces the McFerrin Athletic Center, which opened in 2007.

The most important aspect? Air conditioning. A new, larger indoor, air-conditioned practice facility is just another recruiting tool for the Aggies to use for both in-state and out-of-state student-athletes. Back in May, A&M athletic director Ross Bjork highlighted the features and purpose of the new indoor training facility.

“The indoor performance center, that’ll be done by the 1st of August in time for training camp” he said. “The Slocum-Bright Football complex, this year we’re only renovating the second floor. We moved out nutrition, we moved out academics. The second floor is going to be all of our individual breakout rooms for positions–quarterback, offensive line, all the different position rooms.

"We’ll have an individual team meeting room for offense and another team meeting room for defense, and then we’ll have a walk-through room for offense and defense that’ll attach to all of those breakout rooms. That has to be done by the 1st of August. We report on August 1st and start practice on August 2nd.”

The heat is on coach Jimbo Fisher and the team to bounce back from a lackluster 2022 campaign, but that's the only heat the team will have to deal with this preseason.
