On Tuesday, Big 12 football media days kicked off at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and there were several topics at the forefront of conversation. Not the least of which was conference realignment

TCU Horned Frogs coach Sonny Dykes had some thoughts for outgoing programs Texas and Oklahoma as they enter their final seasons in the Big 12 before joining the SEC.

According to Melissa Triebwasser from Frogs Insider, Dykes suggested that programs who have previously left the Big 12 Conference haven’t had some of the success they experienced previously, saying, “Missouri was playing in a lot of Big 12 championships… haven’t seen that much in the SEC. A&M was a competitive program, not as often now. I don’t know about you but UCLA and Rutgers feels like a natural rivalry to me.”

Does he think the Aggies miss the Big 12? Sure A&M hasn't won a conference title, since joining the SEC, but it can be argued the move made the program more relevant nationally. It can also be argued it's helped with recruiting, due to the national notoriety that comes along with playing in the SEC.

Since joining the league for the 2012 season, A&M has compiled a 90-49 overall record and gone 48-41 in conference play. The best the Aggies have finished is second in the West in 2018 and 2020.

Some schools may not find the same success on the field after moving conferences, but typically those moves benefit the program in other ways. Typically one of those ways is financial.

And that's usually what's best for the program.
