Miami Dolphins Coach Mike McDaniel Sheds Light on 'Hairy' Johnny Manziel Situation With Cleveland Browns

According to Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, Former Texas A&M Aggies QB Johnny Manziel was a disaster waiting to happen for the Cleveland Browns.
In this story:

Texas A&M Aggies quarterback legend Johnny Manziel was a generational talent at the college level.

Not only did he lead the Aggies to an 11-2 record in 2012 and a blowout win over the Oklahoma Sooners in the Cotton Bowl, but he became the first-ever freshman to win the Heisman Trophy.

But that success was not replicated in the NFL, with Manziel becoming one of the biggest busts in the history of the league.

And according to Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel - who was an assistant in Cleveland during Manziel's tenure - a good portion of the staff saw it coming.

"I tried to stay in my lane at that time. It was kind of hairy situation," McDaniel said on The Pivot Podcast. "It was up in the air whether or not there was congruence of thought in that draft pick, let's say. So we knew what it was and at that time, it was more like 'See.' That was a wild time there."

Between living a party lifestyle and running a paid autograph business while at Texas A&M, the aspirations to play professional football quickly faded after he was drafted, with Manziel admitting that he did not watch a single minute of film in his Netflix documentary Untold: Johnny Football

"Zero," Manziel said in the documentary.

McDaniel also corroborated that story.

"I was there and I was getting the reports of zero," McDaniel said in reference to the time Manziel logged in his film tablet. "That is real."

Manziel also said at that point in time in his career he was "supposed" to know the rights and wrongs of being an NFL player, and that he was never going to be capable of being a good quarterback at that time in his career.

"It wouldn't have mattered where I was at, what team, wherever I was at that point in time in my life, I was incapable of being a good NFL quarterback," Manziel said. "When you get to that point and you get to that time, you're supposed to know better... But, when it came down to it, I was a frat boy and my frat was the football team."
