Vols Transfer Ryan Galanie to Pursue MLB Career
On Wednesday, Volunteer transfer Ryan Galanie announced that he would take up a professional baseball career instead of forgoing a year playing college baseball in Knoxville. The announcement came at the same time as Jared Dickey announced he would be doing the same thing.
The news also came a mere week after Galanie transferred to Tennessee from Wofford College. He was one of six players Tennessee landed during a busy transfer portal period for the program. Galanie was selected 389th overall in the 13th round by the Chicago White Sox. He was one of five infielders the White Sox took in the draft, as their class was heavy on pitchers. The move by the former Wofford Terrier is certainly surprising considering his transfer to Rocky Top entailed that he would play the 2024 college baseball season in an orange and white uniform. But that is no longer happening.
It is not hard to see why, though, with the way Galanie played last season at Wofford. He was a very potent threat in the Terriers lineup. Last season, he finished with a .383 batting average and knocked home 17 homers and 66 RBI. He also ran in 73 runs himself while getting 35 stolen bases. He led the Southern Conference in average, runs, RBI, and on-base percentage, while was also top ten in stolen bases and top five in the conference in home runs.
All of the stats helped him bring home SOCON Player of the Year, and he was a national semi-finalist for college baseball's Dick Howser trophy, which is given to the best player each season. He was Wofford College's second player in three years to be named SOCON Player of the Year. Despite transferring to Tennessee, he has decided to pursue his career with the White Sox's farm system, leaving the Vols down one transfer from this busy offseason.
