The Tennessee Volunteers will begin their postseason quest with a matchup against the Charlotte 49ers on June 2.

The Tennessee Volunteers found themselves in the Clemson regional on Monday during the selection show. Their first matchup pins them up against the Charlotte 49ers on June 2nd at 6 p.m. E.T.

The Volunteers are 38-19 overall on the season and 16-14 in SEC play. This is nine fewer wins in conference play from last season's 25-5 record in the SEC. Tennessee had an abrupt end to the SEC tournament as they lost 3-0 in the first round to Texas A&M. This ended their chance at repeating for a conference title. The 49ers are 34-26 overall on the season, and they were 17-12 in conference play. They are very hot as of late to win the C-USA tournament. It was their first tournament title in program history. One thing both teams have in common is that they thrive at home and are below .500 on the road. It will be interesting to see how both squads handle a game away from home after shaky road records this season.

It will also be interesting to see if the Vols can shake off the quick tournament exit against a team that plowed through their conference tournament. It is interesting to note that Charlotte has two wins already against an SEC in South Carolina. This shows that they can compete with power five baseball teams. The Volunteers are very much talented enough to beat this team. They have a combined team batting average of .290 while allowing opponents' averages to hang around the .224 mark. They just cannot underestimate the momentum and "drive to win" this Charlotte team has right now. The game will be available on ESPN U and streaming on ESPN+.
