Taking A Look At Emmanuel Okoye, The Newest Vol
As we head into the summer phase of the Tennessee Volunteers' offseason, the roster was bolstered even more by an elite physical presence ready to make himself known early in Knoxville. Committing on Wednesday afternoon, the prospect will now enter the fold for the Vols and begin working for a role this Fall on the Tennessee Football team's quest for national prominence.
Okoye is not your run-of-the-mill, late off-season signing. He has physical tools to gawk over, and the Vols staff has to be excited to acquire such an electric guy. Physically, Okoye comes in at 6-5 and 230 pounds. What's interesting is that Tennessee is the only school from Emmanuel's top three that recruited him as an offensive player, tight end, to be specific. USC and Texas Tech were the other two programs vying for Okoye's services, but both wanted him as a defensive lineman. The Vols already have some tight end depth, especially with fellow freshman Ethan Davis looking phenomenal in April's Orange and White game.
Okoye is new to football, but the athletic ability and sheer size make him a possible recipient of playing time early on at Neyland if he can figure out the nuances of college football. Emmanuel only garnered three games of football experience at the NFL academy in London, England, where he came over after being a standout basketball prospect. Okoye is as interesting of a prospect as we have seen recently for Tennessee, or most other programs for that matter. Despite a lack of experience, Okoye has incredible upside, and if he does end up at tight end in Josh Heupel's electric, player-friendly system, it could be the type of recruiting move that you look back on years later.
