New York Giants Draft Jalin Hyatt

Tennessee Volunteers wide receiver Jalin Hyatt has been selected by the New York Giants in the 2023 NFL Draft.
In this story:

The Tennessee slide is no more - quarterback Hendon Hooker was selected by the Detroit Lions with the No. 68 pick, and wide receiver Jalin Hyatt quickly came off the board after to the New York Giants with the No. 73 pick.

Hyatt entered Tennessee as a four-star recruit in the 2020 class. He was outside the top 150 on most recruiting sites but immediately was one of the top freshman wideouts in the SEC. He had 20 catches for 276 yards and two touchdowns in his true freshman campaign and followed that up with 21 catches for 226 yards and two touchdowns. Hyatt then made his leap to stardom in 2022.

He flourished with quarterback Hendon Hooker, finishing the 2022 season with 67 catches for 1,267 yards and 15 touchdowns, a program record. He was the first Tennessee unanimous All-American since safety Eric Berry in 2009. Hyatt was also the program's first Biletnikoff Award winner.

NFL evaluators had questions about Hyatt's route tree. Just as they brought up Tennessee's offense as a critique for Hooker, they pointed out that Hyatt relied on speed and lived outside of the numbers. Hyatt has been training during the predraft process to improve his foot speed out of his brakes, which will be hammered home during off-season workouts.
