Why Santiago Vescovi Is A National Name To Know

Tennessee Volunteers guard Santiago Vescovi is returning to Rocky Top for his final season of eligibility and can leave an imprint on college basketball in 2023.
In this story:

Back in April, guard Santiago Vescovi announced he would return to Tennessee. It will be his fifth season in the orange and white, and it also will be his final year of eligibility. He will be one of the team's biggest leaders and a primary factor in their success.

Vescovi had a very productive fourth season. He finished averaging 12.5 points a game with a three-point percentage of 37%. He was also named to the All-SEC first team. It was the second time in a row he had done that, as he also accomplished that in his junior season. Vescovi also improved his rebounding numbers which helped him become a more well-rounded player last season. He averaged 4.6 a game, as it was the most he has averaged in any of his four seasons. He also had the lowest turnover rate of his career last year and the highest steal rate of his career last year. He also is fourth all-time in three-point field goals for the Vols with 250. Tennessee gets a shooter back on their 2023-24 with the return of Vescovi. He is one of the best off-ball movement players in the college game, as he can sneak his way around opposing defenses to find open spots for shots.

The jump shot Vescovi has can take him far in college hoops. He led the team in points per game last season and can do so again for a squad that needs to get some chemistry in order with four transfers joining. So, the Volunteers know that Vescovi will need to get fed the basketball a lot to get the scoring going as a 5th-year senior. As a leader, they are relying on him to do so. This large amount of shooting will help Vescovi open up the best part of his game and possibly lead him to get national recognition.
