Why Zakai Zeigler and Santiago Vescovi are a Deadly Duo
It is no secret that next years Volunteer basketball team will feature a different setup than this past season's team. One senior out of the six that celebrated senior day will return. The addition of multiple transfers also creates a need to re-kindle some chemistry.
However, two returners from last year's team now have the reigns and they could quite honestly be the scariest duo in college basketball. Zakai Zeigler had his season cut short with an ACL injury against Arkansas on senior night. He saw a jump in his minutes and it led to a jump in most statistical categories. His craftiness and ability to blow by defenders make him a great floor general. Defenses next season will need to know where he is on the court at all times.
Santiago Vescovi announced his return to Rocky Top for his final year of eligibility back in April. He was a lights out shooter for Tennessee last season as he is 4th on the all-time three point shooting list in program history. He averaged 12.5 points and 4.6 rebounds a game. His rebounding took an impressive jump from last season.
Teams need to be well aware of where the deadly shooter from Montevideo, Uruguay, is on the court at all times. A court general in Zeigler at point guard and a shooter in Vescovi at shooting guard make for a great duo to have in your backcourt for a younger and transfer-heavy team. The leadership and complementing play from Tennessee's two guards make for a dangerous setup that opposing teams will have to face.
