Four-Star OT Daniel Calhoun Sets Commitment Date
While Tennessee currently holds three offensive line commits in the 2024 recruiting class, they don't have any ready-made tackles. Four-star offensive lineman Gage Ginther (Fort Collins, Colo.) could eventually kick out to tackle, but he's 270 pounds. The Vols need someone like four-star offensive tackle Daniel Calhoun (Marietta, Ga.) to step in and play tackle from day one, but other SEC programs are in hard pursuit. The Vols want him to play in orange, and they will get their answer shortly.
Calhoun has set a July 5 commitment date, according to Jeff Sentell of DawgNation. His finalists are Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and Texas. Calhoun made stops at all four this summer on official visits and has gathered enough information to make an informed decision. The in-state Georgia Bulldogs are the biggest threat here, and Alabama is still riding shotgun as No. 2. Tennessee impressed Calhoun on his official visit, but they currently seem to be the No. 3 school.
A lot can happen between now and July 5, and Calhoun has kept things close to the vest. However, it's tough to pass up an offer to play for your hometown school, one that's currently defending two consecutive national titles. He's 6-6.5 and 350 pounds, ready to play SEC football in pass protection from day one. Tennessee will certainly fight until the final day and lay a final pitch on one of the top offensive tackles in America, a position they desperately need.
