Quarterback is always a conversation around the University of Tennessee. The Vols added the commitment of quarterback Jake Merklinger on Friday, are waiting on an announcement from quarterback Jadyn Davis on Friday, and are in the midst of visit season.

Sources confirm that 2025 quarterback KJ Lacey will be on campus the weekend of April 8. Lacey is a four-star Alabama native that starred for Saraland High School in his first season starting. He threw for 40 touchdowns and won a state championship as a sophomore and is garnering interest from Alabama, Florida State, Auburn, and Tennessee.

The Crimson Tide are the early leaders for his services. Lacey is teammates with Alabama wide receiver commit Ryan Williams, who has been pushing for his high school teammate to join him. Florida State hosted him for an unofficial visit in late January, and the Vols got his second unofficial offseason visit.

According to those close to the situation, Lacey has spent the past few months hammering out some unofficial visits. Several SEC powers will likely get unofficial visits over the next few months; Lacey wants to get in-person time with coaching staffs before the head coaches are allowed to contact the class of 2025 on September 1.

Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel has established a rhythm in recruiting quarterbacks. He tends to target tall, long quarterbacks with projectable measurements; Lacey is his first undersized quarterback target since taking the job.
