Tennessee Official Visitor Capsule: Marques Easley
After reviewing Daniel Calhoun on Tuesday afternoon, it would seem that we could not find another high-profile OL on Calhoun's level to talk about potentially joining the Vols. As it turns out, we can. Marques Easley brings a lot to the table, and Tennessee Head Coach Josh Heupel understands this. At 6'7", 300 pounds, Easley brings a leaner, slightly taller frame than Calhoun.
Easley is ranked as the No. 5 prospect in his home state of Illinois and marks as the No. 17 offensive tackle prospect in his class. With his commitment date set for July 8th, Easley has been taking his Official Visits with teams and has one set for this Friday in Knoxville. While Heupel and his staff would love to bring in both Daniel Calhoun and Easley, they have got to come out of this recruiting cycle with at least one. For a squad that will be looking for a new heart and soul on the O line following the departure of Darnell Wright, every recruit counts, especially these can't miss guys.
Prospect: Marques Easley
Projected Position: OT
Vitals: 6-7 and 300 pounds
School: Kankakee High School (Kankakee, Illinois)
Frame: As noted, slightly less thick than Daniel Calhoun but possesses a slight height advantage. It has great length and is good at keeping rushers at a distance. With 21 pancake blocks last season, if he gets hands-on, the play is likely over for his opponent.
Athleticism: A good basketball player who has also seen action on the defensive side of the football. He has a blend of speed and power that you love to see from an offensive tackle. Great run blocker and good in pass pro as well.
Bottom Line: Not quite the tremendous physical upside, but he is very capable and athletic, with a good chance to play early on if his trajectory continues. Very innate athletic ability combined with brute strength.
