Jadyn Davis Commitment Continues Run of 2024 QBs
Quarterbacks pop fast; Jake Merklinger pledged his services to Tennessee on Thursday, and five-star Jadyn Davis committed to Michigan on Friday. Both are top-100 prospects commanding national attention, but they felt it was time to wind down their recruitments and begin focusing on luring other top recruits to their prospective programs.
An annual tradition is the quarterback commitment. The top bunch usually commits within one month of each other; the past two days signify that trend is continuing. Entering the week, five of the top ten 2024 quarterbacks were uncommitted. That number dwindled to three, and more commitments are on the horizon.
Four-star quarterback Air Noland will decide on April 8 between Clemson, Miami, Texas A&M, Alabama, Arkansas, Ohio State, and Oregon. Sources indicate that the Aggies are positioned well after a recent visit to College Station. Noland is one of the top available names; he threw for 4,095 yards and 55 touchdowns in his junior season.
Unless another unexpected development arises, he will be the next top 2024 to commit. Several coaching staffs are waiting on his decision before turning to other options in the class. California's Elijah Brown is another top quarterback that several blue-blood programs like Oregon, USC, and Ohio State are pursuing.
The top dog in the 2024 class is Dylan Raiola. The Arizona native is a generational-type prospect and may be the best we've had on the high school scene since Trevor Lawerence came out of Cartersville High School in 2018. Raiola shares strong interest with USC, Georgia, and Nebraska. The Trojans and Bulldogs have traded leads in this recruitment, and the most recent murmurs have him leaning toward Athens.
These names are of note to Tennessee fans because they will be pillars for competitors moving forward. Wherever Raiola commits, that coaching staff will gain an advantage over the Vols, as 2024 recruits will want to play with him.
Tennessee found Merklinger in the 2024 class and decided to make him their guy. Long-term, he projects as a potential SEC starter and quality depth to push blue-chip quarterback Nico Iamaleava. Sources confirm that while the coaching staff likes Merklinger, his commitment doesn't change their pursuit of future quarterbacks.
They are moving on to the 2025 class, which has four or five names they like. Unfortunately, other programs also like the 2025 class and will be moving on within a matter of days. It's going to be a battle for the top group, and that battle begins as soon as the top 2024 quarterbacks are done committing.
