Longhorns Snap Losing Streak, Secure First Win Against Islanders

The Longhorns finally got in the win column as they blow out the Islanders on Tuesday night.

The Texas Longhorns (1-3) got a much-needed first win of the season in dominant fashion on Tuesday, having no trouble dispatching the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islanders (2-2) 12-2.

Between Sunday afternoon and Tuesday night, the Longhorns looked like two entirely different teams.

Of course, playing at home helps, as Texas has always performed well within the friendly confines of Disch-Falk Field.

That was no different on Tuesday night as they cruised to the win over the Islanders. After giving up a solo home run in the top of the first, Lebarron Johnson Jr. was lights out to finish.

He recorded a final line of five innings of one-run baseball, striking out eight and allowing only three hits. Johnson's development as a midweek starter and major bullpen arm will be instrumental for Texas.

As for the lineup, well, it was dominant in its own right as every single starter recorded a base hit in the win. Freshman Jalin Flores' first hit as a Longhorn was a big one, as he launched a leadoff home run in the second to start the scoring for Texas.

From there, it was all Texas. The Longhorns finished the game with 12 runs on 16 hits, while in Arlington they only scored nine runs on 13 hits across three games.

While Johnson was dominant in his five innings of work, once again the bullpen showed that it is a strength for the Longhorns. The Texas bullpen combined for four innings while only allowing one run and striking out five in the win.

What's next for Texas?

Tuesday's matchup against Texas A&M Corpus Christi was the first of five straight home games for the Longhorns, as they now shift their focus to a three-game weekend series against the Indiana Hoosiers.
