The Texas Longhorns find themselves in the home stretch of the regular season with just 18 games left before postseason play begins.

Through their first 38 games they've put together an impressive 26-12 (8-4) record and find themselves sitting alone in first place in the Big 12. As far as their chances to not only bring home a conference title but also host a regional, they have to like where they sit.

They're coming off their third conference series win over the weekend, which saw them take the series opener and finale against Baylor. It very well could have been a sweep but a ninth inning collapse in game two kept that from happening.

Another conference series win is nothing to scoff at, though, with every Big 12 game having importance in a race for the conference crown.

Now, though, the Longhorns are returning home for a five-game home stand which they are kicking off against the Abilene Christian Wildcats - a team that could give them a good fight.

A look at Abilene Christian's season so far

The Wildcats have put together an impressive season so far, and have a similar record split at home compared to on the road as the Longhorns. When they play at home they sport a strong 19-7 record while being 4-4 on the road, something that could benefit Texas.

Abilene Christian by the numbers

Record: 24-11

Runs scored: 246

Runs allowed: 212

Team Avg.: .300

Team ERA: 5.96

Abilene Christian wins this game if...

It can get into the Longhorns bullpen early and often. The pitching staff has been the strength of this Texas team all season long, however bullpen depth has become a pressing issue in recent weeks. If the Wildcats can knock out the Longhorns starter early and burn through bullpen arms then they have a strong chance at the upset.

Texas wins this game if...

In a similar fashion to Abilene Christian, the Longhorns need to get into the Wildcats bullpen early. The Wildcats won't have any issue putting up runs if Texas' pitching struggles, which makes a strong night at the plate for the Longhorns paramount. If they can do so and capitalize on the Wildcats pitching they should add another midweek win to the mantle.
