Longhorns Byron Murphy II was 'Waiting on [His] Time' to Shine
Texas Longhorns defensive lineman Byron Murphy II is one of the most talented defensive linemen on the roster. However, he was able to showcase other secretive talents on Saturday against the Wyoming Cowboys, scoring Texas' first touchdown of the game on offense.
In the second quarter, lined up on the one-yard line before reaching the end zone, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers flicked the ball to Murphy to put an extra six points on the board for the Longhorns. After the extra point was cleared, Texas led the Cowboys 10-7 and never trailed the rest of the game.
Murphy joked about his receiving talents after the matchup, comparing himself to his teammates.
"No, I'm not going to say I have the best hands on the team," Murphy laughed. "But I've got one of the best hands on the team."
Murphy mentioned that his special moment had been in the Longhorns' playbook since last season. He was just patiently waiting for his time to shine.
"I have just been waiting, waiting on my time, waiting for it to come, and also we practice it every week," Murphy said. "So just knowing that it will come up in the game, just knowing I just had to be ready when it came, I was there ready to go."
The Horns took quite a scare at the start of the first quarter, allowing a 62-yard rushing touchdown on the Cowboys' first possession of the game. However, momentum started to pick up for Texas starting the second half. But, the Longhorns know that it's not how you start a game, it's how you finish.
"The mood of [the fourth quarter was] 'finish'," Murphy said. "That's all we know, that's what we preach."
