Texas Longhorns Head Coach Steve Sarkisian Named Finalist for Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award
Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian, who led the Longhorns to an astonishing 12-1 overall record, a Big 12 Conference title, and a slot in the College Football Playoffs has been nominated as a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award.
The Football Writers Association of America announced on Tuesday that Sarkisian was selected as one of 12 coaches for this award.
The Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award annually recognizes college football's national coach of the year.
Sarkisian has made history for the Longhorns' football program. This is the first year is history that Texas was selected to the College Football Playoffs, and on top of that, they received a No. 3 ranking.
Texas' outstanding offensive is currently ranked at No. 9 overall, outscoring its opponent 470 to 228 points scored this season while averaging around 36 points per matchup. As far as total defense, the Longhorns are ranked at No. 23, only allowing around 17.5 points per game.
On top of that, the Longhorns currently hold a seven-game winning streak which has not happened since the 2008-09 season when Texas recorded a 17-game winning streak.
Needless to say, Sarkisian has turned the Longhorns' football program around - from a 5-7 overall record in 2021 to now being selected to play in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1 against Washington to potentially have a shot at taking home a National Championship trophy.
