Texas QB Quinn Ewers Impresses At Manning Passing Academy
The Manning Passing Academy helps grow young quarterbacks between 8th and 12th grade, but a highlight of the camp is the Friday Night Lights skills competition from some of the best collegiate signal-callers.
While Texas Longhorns quarterbacks Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning are serving as MPA counselors to teach the next generation of great gunslingers, the former got his own shot to show off his skills and was one of the standouts, according to On3.
"Remember the confident quarterback who had Alabama’s defense on its heels before he exited the game with an injury? That’s the Ewers that showed up to Friday evening’s quarterback competition in South Louisiana," On3 wrote. "Ewers throws an effortless ball and showed the ability to hit on a variety of passes.
"Texas fans are excited for the future in five-star signee Arch Manning, but with Manning’s father Cooper on the microphone for Friday night’s skills competition, the praise for Ewers came early and often. Ewers is the present in Austin, and the upside is clear."
All signs have pointed in the right direction that Ewers has turned the corner after a let-down 2022 season in which he threw for 2,177 yards and 15 touchdowns.
In the Orange and White Game in April, Ewers completed 16-of-23 passes for 195 yards and one touchdown.
Next season, he will have to assume more of the offensive load without running backs Bijan Robinson nor Roschon Johnson carrying the ball, but with the return of Xavier Worthy and Ja'Tavion Sanders and the addition of Adonai Mitchell, Ewers will have no shortage of weapons at his disposal.
