Texas Longhorns Survive Kansas State Wildcats Second Half Surge, Win in OT
AUSTIN -- The No. 7 Texas Longhorns dodged a major bullet on Saturday afternoon against the Kansas State Wildcats.
Leading 17-0 at one point in the contest, the Horns looked to be coasting to an easy win in Austin over the No. 24 Wildcats.
However, that's when Kansas State made a major push, tying the Longhorns at 27-27 in the third quarter, with Texas all of the sudden seemingly on their way to a disappointing loss.
Then, with the game on the line, Maalik Murphy took the Horns down the field for what turned out to be a go-ahead field goal, giving Texas the 30-27 win.
Despite the late score, and a missed field goal of their own on the next possession, Kansas State was not ready to give up quite yet though.
And after being forced to put back to Kansas State after a three and out, the Wildcats got the ball back and were able to get in position for a field goal.
The attempt was good, sending the game to overtime.
In the first overtime period, the Horns struck first, albeit after going three and out and settling for a field goal, taking a 33-30 lead.
The Longhorns' defense then came up big once again on the next Wildcats possession, forcing Kansas State to a turnover on downs and winning the game.
Following the slugfest vs. Kansas State, the Longhorns will now turn their attention to the road, where they will travel to Fort Worth to take on the TCU Horned Frogs at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
Texas is 64-28 all-time vs. the Horned Frogs, with TCU taking the last game in the series 17-10 in 2022. The Horned Frogs have dominated the series as of late as well, winning seven of the last nine games,
