Longhorns Win Big with Commitment from Transfer Max Abmas

The Texas Longhorns have landed the top NCAA Transfer Portal prospect in the country, in Oral Roberts guard Max Abmas.
In this story:

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas Longhorns have struck gold in the transfer portal.

After suffering major losses to graduation, the NBA Draft and the NCAA Transfer Portal, Texas received a commitment from Oral Roberts star guard Max Abmas on Thursday.

The addition of Abmas might be the biggest transfer portal win in the country to this point, with the Longhorns in desperate need of a difference-maker heading into 2023.

Abmas, who entered the NCAA Transfer Portal earlier this month, currently sits as the NCAA's career leader in scoring.

Last season with the Golden Eagles, the 6-foot-1 Abmas averaged 21.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.1 steals and four assists per game, hitting 43.6 percent from the field.

He is also a two-time Summit League player of the year and a three-time first-team all-conference nominee.

And with the exits of Marcus Carr and Sir'Jabari Rice to graduation, Arterio Morris to the transfer portal, and Tyrese Hunter testing the NBA Waters, - not to mention the recent decommitment of five-star guard AJ Johnson - the Longhorns were all of the sudden short on depth in the guard department.

Abmas now goes a long way in solving that problem, and will likely immediately come in and serve as a starter in the back court.
