Longhorns Appear to Be Leading Race for Elite Transfer Max Abmas

Multiple reports and predictions are indicating that the Texas Longhorns are currently front-runners for talented Oral Roberts transfer guard Max Abmas.

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas Longhorns have had some tough pills to swallow this offseason as far as the roster is concerned.

But one potential addition through the transfer portal could make all the personnel changes a bit easier to digest.

Multiple reports and predictions are indicating that the Longhorns are leading the race for talented Oral Roberts transfer guard Max Abmas. The Rockwall (Dallas), Texas native will enter next season as the NCAA's active scoring leader (2,561) and is undoubtedly one of the most coveted players in the portal.

The Athletic reported Thursday that "Texas apparently has the lead" in potentially acquiring Abmas. Inside Texas also reported on Monday that the Longhorns "continue to have very good communication" with Abmas during the recruiting process.

On3 reported Thursday that the Longhorns "continue to come up" in conversations regarding Abmas. Kansas State remains another team to watch as well, per the report.

Combine all this with the fact that 247Sports released two Crystal Ball predictions that give Abmas a "100 percent" chance to commit with Texas, and it's hard to deny that there's some fire behind all this smoke. Though these are just predictions from recruiting experts, it's still quite significant that there's "100 percent" confidence he ends up in Austin.

Abmas averaged 21.9 points (ninth in the nation), 4.4 rebounds and four assists this past season while shooting 43.6 percent from the field. He blew up on the national stage in March Madness after leading Oral Roberts to the Sweet 16 during the 2020-21 season, averaging 26.6 points per game during those three games in the NCAA Tournament.
