What Texas is Getting in Four-Star Aeryn Hampton

Multi-talented in-state playmaker Aeryn Hampton could have a big impact for the Texas Longhorns once he arrives on campus.
In this story:

The University of Texas recently received a commitment from one of the most versatile players in the country earlier this summer, Dangerfield (TX) star wide receiver Aeryn Hampton.

Hampton is listed as a receiver, but at Dangerfield, he played on both sides of the ball, and became one of the top playmakers in the state. In 2022, he racked up 55 catches for 1161 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also put up similar receiving numbers in his sophomore year, accounting for 1029 more yards and 12 more touchdowns.

In addition to that, he served as Daingerfield's kick returner and led his team with 2 returns for scores last season. But that's not all. Hampton also played defensive back and totaled 74 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, and a whopping nine interceptions.

He returned five of those interceptions back for touchdowns too, bringing his total touchdown number to 39 touchdowns over the last two seasons. In 2022, he was named Texas District 11-3A D-II Co-MVP.

Standing at 5’10, 175 lbs, Hampton also is an incredible track runner, further demonstrating his athleticism. In April 2023, he ran an 11.54 100-meter dash, which was among the best in the state.

Hampton is expected to have an impact as soon as he steps foot on the 40 acres in 2024 and becomes a Swiss Army knife that could fill any role the Longhorns require.
