The UCLA Bruins entered their final regular season game against Cal with much excitement. They were coming off a big win last week against their rivals in USC and could have ended the year strong with two straight victories.

But instead, Cal came into the Rose Bowl and handed UCLA another brutal loss. The team dropped the game by a score of 33-7, and it was a miserable mark on the weird season for the Bruins.

With the loss, UCLA now is likely to head to the Independence Bowl for their bowl game rather than the LA Bowl. It's a frustrating extra facet from their defeat to Cal this weekend.

UCLA finished the season dropping three of their last four games, but at least they beat USC. They can hold onto that for the next year, and fans can take that victory to have bragging rights.

The Bruins had a chance to send their season off on the right note, but instead, it was more of the same issues that plagued them all year. It was an up-and-down season, filled with hope at first, only to be taken away completely.

Their loss to Cal was another reminder of how far this program still needs to go. The offense needs to change, and the defense needs to become a little more consistent. But now they head into the offseason with hopes of a better future.

The program will enter into the Big-10 next season, so in their final Pac-12 game, they put up a complete dud. It's a culmination of all the years this program has found itself struggling, but maybe the new era will be better for them.
