UCLA Football: Bruins Star WR Announces Return for 2024 Season

UCLA sophomore pass catcher will stay one more year.

UCLA has lost a ton of great players due to the NFL draft or the transfer portal. However, they'll retain one of their best pass catchers from the 2023 season.

Bruins sophomore wide receiver J. Michael Sturdivant announced via his personal Instagram account that he would return to school for one more season.

The Los Angeles Times' Ben Bolch notes that this decision could be a massive break for the program heading into next season.

Sturdivant was among the bright spots in UCLA's 2023 offense. In his first year as a Bruin, he recorded 36 receptions for 597 yards and four touchdowns with 16.6 yards per reception.

The sophomore's best game came in the 2023 season finale against the Boise State Broncos, where he had four receptions for 142 yards and one touchdown. After transferring from Cal to UCLA, he was expected to be among the top wide receivers in the conference.

That wasn't the case due to unsteady play and inconsistency from the quarterback position. Hopefully, that all changes in 2024 as the Bruins prepare to transition to the Big 10 conference.

Bruin fans are hoping for a big season from J. Michael, and so is he, as he hopes to make the leap to the pro level after 2024.
