UCLA Football: Laiatu Latu Met With Storied NFC Team Ahead of Combine

Could we see Latu land in the top ten in the upcoming draft?

The NFL draft is less than two months away, and the trajectory of players is set to change forever. This draft class is loaded with talent that could help change a team's fortune.

One player who will certainly do so is UCLA's superstar edge rusher, Laiatu Latu. Latu is set to be taken on the first day of the NFL draft; however, it's uncertain what pick he will be.

Many mock drafts have him going in the middle round or toward the end of the first round; however, a team with a top-ten pick formally met with the 23-year-old.

Insider for the Chicago Bears Josh Schrock says Latu and the Chicago Bears met prior to the NFL Scouting Combine.

Schrock noted that Latu picked darts over a game of putt because he "sucks" at golf. You have to love the honesty.

The Bears hold the number one and nine pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on day one.

Although golf is not his game, football certainly is. Latu is among the best prospects in the draft and certainly the best edge rusher in the draft. He possesses all the tools to be elite at the pro level, as his game should easily translate to the NFL level.

This Bruin impacted his team's defense in 2023 and earned himself some hardware. He became the first Bruin ever to win the Lombardi Award, the Ted Hendricks Award, and the Polynesian Defensive Player of the Year honor. He was also a finalist for the Bednarik Award and Lott IMPACT Trophy.

Latu led the nation in tackles for loss per game (1.8) and ranked fourth nationally and second in the league in average sacks per game (1.08). There are hardly any weaknesses in his game. If the Bears happen to pick him up, they'll be delighted with his presence.
