UNC Football: NFL Tar Heel Records His First Touchdown of Season
Mitch Trubisky hasn't drawn more than a handful of starting nods in a season since 2020. That was his last season with the Chicago Bears, the franchise that selected him with the No. 2 overall pick at the 2017 NFL following his three prolific UNC football campaigns.

But the 29-year-old is still a serviceable backup in the league. On that note, Trubisky's career passing touchdown total (69) doesn't look finished growing, as he notched his first of the season on Sunday, albeit in the 4-3 Pittsburgh Steelers' eventual 20-10 home loss to the 6-2 Jacksonville Jaguars.
Trubisky, who came into the game following starting QB Kenny Pickett's injury late in the first half, inherited a 17-3 deficit. So, it wouldn't be fair to pin the loss on him.
He finished the contest with a 15-for-27 passing clip for 138 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. His only other appearance this season came in a 30-6 loss at the Houston Texans on Oct. 1; he posted a 3-for-5 passing mark that day for 18 yards.
Across his seven years as a pro, including stints with the Bears, Buffalo Bills, and Steelers, Mitch Trubisky has played 66 games and drawn 55 starts. He's thrown for 12,060 yards, 69 touchdowns, and 45 interceptions while completing 64.1 percent of his pass attempts.
The Steelers host the 3-4 Tennessee Titans on Thursday night.
