USC Basketball: Former No. 2 Overall Draft Pick Scouts Bronny James
USC Trojans men's basketball combo guard Bronny James made his college debut Sunday, during a somewhat shocking 84-79 loss to the Long Beach State Dirtbags.
Part of that defeat can be explained by the mid-game exit of an even more highly-regarded freshman guard, five-star recruit Isaiah Collier of Murrieta, Georgia, who left during the contest's first frame. He did return later, but his absence proved risky for USC.
Bronny, the son of 19-time All-Star Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James, is a four-star recruit out of Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth. He had been held out until now while recovering from an offseason cardiac arrest. He scored four points in 16 minutes off the bench.
How good will Bronny be this year? What will he give the Trojans on the hardwood, skill set-wise?
Former Duke Blue Devils standout point guard Jay Williams recently reflected on James' fit with the the program while appearing on Brandon "Scoop B" Robinson's Scoop B Radio Podcast.
"I think they will get a floor leader," Williams told Robinson. "There’s no question around the talent that USC has. Boogie Ellis can score, Isaiah can play bully basketball, you know? You talk about how Kobe Johnson can get to where he wants on the floor and is great defensively but it doesn’t feel like they have maestro. It doesn’t feel like they have a player that can make the game easier for everybody especially in transition plays and I feel like that Bronny’s IQ and his professionalism I think will add different dimensions to them."
Next up for the 5-3 Trojans is a date with Auburn next Sunday, the 17th, at 10 a.m. PT.
