USC Women's Basketball: Trojans' Seed For Pac-12 Tournament Unveiled
USC women's basketball will officially hold the No. 2 seed in the Pac-12 Tournament this season. After a season in which they went 23-5 overall and 13-5 in the Pac-12, the Trojans will now get the second-best conference seed in the tournament.
This is the highest seeding the Trojans have held. USC will begin play in the tournament on Thursday, when they will take on either Arizona or Washington to try and make the semifinals.
Only Stanford, who finished the regular season 26-4, is seeded ahead of USC. Stanford is also the lone Pac-12 women's basketball team who ranks ahead of USC in the AP Top 25 poll, ranking No. 2 compared to USC's No. 5. UCLA is behind USC, with the No. 3 seed.
USC will attempt to win the Pac-12 Tournament for the first time since 2014. As the second-best seeded team in the conference, the Trojans certainly have a shot. Their toughest competition will be UCLA or Stanford, but the good news is the Trojans have defeated both of those teams this year.
Stanford has easily been the class of women's college basketball in the Pac-12 over the years, but thanks to JuJu Watkins' 51 point game, the Trojans have gotten past the Cardinal. The other opponent who could scare USC is Arizona. The Wildcats nearly upset USC last week, playing the Trojans through double overtime before USC got the win. If the Trojans have to play Arizona Thursday, it could spell trouble.
However, with Watkins, Rayah Marshall, McKenzie Forbes and Kayla Padilla, the Trojans will be able to get past any opponent for a shot at the conference title.
