USC football: 4-star linebacker commits to Trojans
A sixth member of the group that officially visited USC last weekend has committed. Four-star 2024 Cheshire Academy (Conn.) linebacker Elijah Newby pledged to USC on Friday, he announced on social media.
247Sports.com ranks Newby as the No. 233 prospect nationally and the No. 23 overall linebacker prospect. He chose USC over Penn State, Stanford and a number of other schools. Newby is 6-foot-3 and weighs 185 pounds.
WHO'S COMMITTED TO USC IN THE LAST WEEK?
Three-star Cherry Creek (Englewood, Colo.) offensive lineman Hayden Treter was the first player who visited to give a verbal to the Trojans. He announced his decision on Sunday morning. Later that day, four-star Clearwater (Fla.) safety Jarvis Boatwright also picked USC.
On Monday, four-star Serra (Gardena, Calif.) cornerback Dakoda Fields and four-star Booker T. Washington (Atlanta) defensive end Kameryn Fountain committed, but USC still wasn't done. The Trojans secured a verbal pledge from four-star Central Catholic (Modesto, Calif.) offensive lineman Manasse Itete later that day too.
"USC is a powerhouse," Itete said. "They are doing a good job with guys at different positions, and also they're moving to the Big 10 against a lot of big dawgs."
WHICH OTHER PLAYERS ARE IN USC'S 2024 CLASS
Prior to this week, USC had three committed players: four-star Lakeridge (Lake Oswego, Ore.) tight end Joey Olsen, three-star McKinney (Texas) running back Bryan Jackson, four-star Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) wide receiver Xavier Jordan.
There's still a chance USC adds more commitments from last weekend's group of visitors.
Two high profile prospects are officially visiting the Trojans this weekend as well: four-star safety Peyton Woodyard and four-star linebacker Kyngston Viliamu-Asa. Both Woodyard and Viliamu-Asa attend St. John Bosco High School (Bellflower, Calif.).
It's likely that Newby's commitment won't affect Viliamu-Asa's recruitment. He's still one of the Trojans top linebacker targets.
