USC football: 4-star cornerback commits to Trojans
A third member of USC's official visitor group from last weekend has committed to the Trojans football program.
After three-star Cherry Creek (Englewood, Colo.) offensive lineman Hayden Treter and four-star Clearwater (Fla.) safety Jarvis Boatwright both pledged on Sunday, four-star Serra (Gardena, Calif.) cornerback Dakoda Fields committed to USC on Monday, he announced on social media.
Fields is the No. 78 rated prospect nationally, according to the 247Sports.com composite, and the No. 10 corner. He's 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds.
Prior to his official visit, Fields said of USC:
"What stands out the most is obviously being in Los Angeles and having so many networking opportunities. The main thing I want to get out of college is developing as a human being and a football player, and I feel like 'SC can do both for me pretty well. ... I’m looking forward to building relationships more with the coaches and bonding with some of the players — just having a good time overall while also getting the information I need being a student-athlete there."
Fields' pledge brings USC's 2024 recruiting class to six members. Four-star Lakeridge (Lake Oswego, Ore.) tight end Joey Olsen, three-star McKinney (Texas) running back Bryan Jackson, four-star Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) wide receiver Xavier Jordan, Treter and Boatwright make up the Trojans' current class.
The addition of Fields is a major win for USC — he was considered an Oregon lean prior to his USC official visit. The Trojans landed a top 100 corner in the 2021 and 2022 high school recruiting cycles, but did not sign one in 2023 (Maliki Crawford is rated as the No. 330 prospect nationally). Fields will give USC another elite playmaker at the position.
