Former UVA Center Francisco Caffaro Transfers to Santa Clara
Former Virginia center Francisco Caffaro announced on Monday afternoon that he will be transferring to Santa Clara for his final season of college basketball.
Caffaro was the first of three Cavaliers to enter the transfer portal at the end of the season, entering his name into the portal on March 23rd. "It has been an honor to play for Virginia these last 5 years and to share lifelong bonds with my teammates and coaches, my other family," Caffaro said in a social media post. "I am forever grateful for the UVA community and city of Charlottesville for taking me in and making me feel at home while being a long way from Argentina. I want to express my gratitude to Coach Bennett, and the rest of the coaching staff for taking a chance on me and allowing me to pursue my dreams."
A 7'1" redshirt senior from Santa Fe, Argentina, Caffaro spent five years in the Virginia men's basketball program, the first of which he redshirted as the Cavaliers won the 2019 National Championship. Over the last four seasons, Caffaro appeared in 92 total games, including 21 starts. Now, Caffaro heads to the West Coast to play his final season of college basketball for Herb Sendek's Broncos, who went 23-10 overall and 11-5 in the West Coast Conference this season, and fell in the first round of the NIT.
Caffaro is the second Cavalier to transfer to another school this offseason, joining redshirt freshman forward Isaac Traudt, who committed to Creighton on March 31st. The last domino to fall is redshirt junior center Kadin Shedrick, who entered the transfer portal on March 27th and who is reportedly considering a transfer to five schools: Duke, Texas, Missouri, Kansas State, and Xavier.
