Virginia is a top contender for one of the top West Coast basketball prospects in the class of 2024. Four-star forward Jacob Cofie announced his top four schools on Saturday (Aug. 26) and UVA made the cut along with USC, Washington, and Ohio State.

A 6'9", 225-pound power forward out of Eastside Catholic School in Sammamish, Washington, Cofie picked up an offer from Virginia on July 10th, joining a recruiting battle dominated by top West Coast basketball programs. Now, Cofie is down to four schools and the Cavaliers are still very much in the mix, with Cofie set to take an official visit to UVA on September 8th. Cofie has also visited Washington officially and could be headed to Ohio State later in September, but that visit isn't set yet.

Cofie is rated a four-star by most of the major recruiting services and the 247Sports Industry Composite has Cofie ranked as the No. 88 overall recruit in the country, the No. 16 power forward in the class of 2024, and the No. 1 player in the state of Washington.

In breaking down his four finalists schools in a recent interview with On3, here's what Cofie said about Virginia:

“Virginia started recruiting me late and saw me at Peach Jam and loved my game. Since then, they have spent a lot of time viewing my tapes and truly believe I have a lot to bring to the UVA roster. Coach Tony Bennett sees things that they could do to help me expand my game and develop me to play at the next level. They have a program that wins many games.”

Cofie is the first of four recruits from the class of 2024 scheduled to take an official visit to Virginia over the next two months. UVA will host Cofie on September 8th, five-star wing Kon Knueppel on September 14th, four-star forward Matthew Hodge on September 21st, and four-star forward David Punch on October 20th. Virginia is in the top four for Cofie, top 10 for Hodge, top seven for Punch, and is one of five schools hosting Knueppel for an official visit this fall.

The Cavaliers are still technically in search of their first verbal commit from the class of 2024. They had one in Christian Bliss, but he reclassified to the class of 2023 and is now enrolled at UVA. Virginia is hopeful to see at least one of Cofie, Knueppel, Hodge, or Punch commit to UVA following their upcoming official visits.
