Top 10 In-State Recruit Gerard Johnson to Decide Between Virginia and Virginia Tech
One of the top football recruits in the Commonwealth of Virginia in the class of 2024 has cut his recruitment down to two schools, confirming that he will be staying in-state to play college football. Four-star edge rusher Gerard Johnson announced a top 2 of Virginia and Virginia Tech in a social media post on Wednesday afternoon.
A 6'4", 240-pound defensive end who attends Frank W. Cox High School in Virginia Beach, Johnson is rated a four-star prospect by the 247Sports Composite, which also ranks him as the No. 26 edge rusher in the country in the class of 2024 and the No. 7 overall recruit in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
One of the top defensive playmakers in the country, Johnson was offered by more than 20 programs, including Wake Forest, West Virginia, Duke, Boston College, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, JMU, Liberty, Appalachian State, Temple, and others. Now, Johnson is down to a final two of Virginia and Virginia Tech, who will go head-to-head for the commitment of one of the most talented high school football players in the state.
Johnson took unofficial visits to both schools and just took his official visit to Virginia last weekend. He has an official visit scheduled to Virginia Tech for later this month. Johnson's college decision will likely come soon after that.
