Virginia Lands Commitment From Three-Star Safety Cedric Franklin

Franklin chose the Cavaliers over offers from nearly 30 programs, including Indiana, West Virginia, Missouri, Boston College, and others

The Georgia to Virginia pipeline is alive and well for the UVA football program. 

The Cavaliers secured their third-straight verbal commitment from a Georgia native for the 2024 recruiting class as three-star safety Cedric Franklin (Marietta, GA) announced his commitment to Virginia in a social media post on Friday night. 

Franklin arrived in Charlottesville for a visit on Wednesday and evidently, the visit went pretty well as Franklin pledged to the Cavaliers right away. A 6'2", 185-pound defensive back out of Kell High School in Marietta, Georgia, Franklin totaled 39 tackles, seven pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and two blocked punts in his junior season and earned a Second-Team All-Region selection. 

Franklin held offers from nearly 30 programs, including Indiana, West Virginia, Missouri, Boston College, South Florida, BYU, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Appalachian State, James Madison, Liberty, Memphis, Old Dominion and others. He also took visits to South Carolina and Georgia Tech. Virginia extended an offer on May 17th and one month later, Franklin has announced his commitment to UVA.

247Sports rates Franklin as a three-star prospect as well as the No. 113 safety in the country in the class of 2024 and the No. 134 overall recruit in the state of Georgia, a known hotbed for some of the most talented football prospects in the nation. Franklin is the third Georgia native to commit to UVA in the last couple of weeks, joining defensive end Chase Morrison (Roswell, GA) and cornerback Jaylin Lackey (Snellville, GA), who both announced their commitments to Virginia on June 7th. Franklin is also the third defensive back to commit to UVA's 2024 recruiting class, joining Lackey and Ethan Minter (Chester, VA).
