No. 17 West Virginia Hosts Penn State
Morgantown, WV - The No. 17 West Virginia Mountaineers (29-11) welcome the Penn State Nittany Lions (23-13) to Monongalia County Ballpark Tuesday night with the first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. EST and the action will stream on ESPN+.
Penn State won the first meeting 11-6 two weeks ago in Happy Valley after a seven-run sixth inning propelled the Nittany Lions to the upset win.
West Virginia has won six of its seven games since the loss, notching a conference road series win over Oklahoma State and captured the programs first series win against TCU in Morgantown this past weekend and re-entered the national rankings and vaulted to the top of the Big 12 standings.
The Mountaineers were without Big 12 Player of the Year frontrunner J.J. Wetherholt for five a five-game stretch but the sophomore second baseman returned to action in the series finale versus to TCU, pinch-hitting with the bases loaded and hit a base clearing double in the fourth inning and finished 2-3 at the plate with four RBIs. He leads the Big 12 Conference in hitting with a .455 batting average and 28 stolen bases.
Sophomore senior shortstop Tevin Tucker brought home Big 12 Baseball Player of the Week Honors on Monday. He hit .571 (8-14) with a pair of RBIs and extended his hitting streak to six as the Mountaineers leadoff hitter in place of Wetherholt’s absence at the top of the order.
Penn State has won five of their last seven games since the upset win over WVU and the Nittany Lions are also coming into the game with a four-game winning streak after taking down Youngstown State and a sweep of Ohio State.
Thomas Bramley leads Penn State with a .348 average while Kyle Hannon has six home runs and 24 stolen bases.
Penn State leads the all-time series 72-44.
