Atlanta Braves' Collin McHugh to Begin Rehab Assignment on Tuesday at High-A Rome
After a rash of injuries to start this season, the Atlanta Braves are finally starting to turn the corner.
The team recently welcomed back starting pitcher Kyle Wright and just yesterday, activated starting pitcher Max Fried. Now, they are getting closer to seeing relief standout Collin McHugh, who is beginning a rehab assignment on Tuesday at High-A Rome.
NBC Sports EDGE reports that McHugh could be ready to return by the end of the month after a few rehab appearances. He's been out since early April with shoulder inflammation.
The 35-year-old McHugh in an integral part of the Braves bullpen. He is entering his second season with the Braves after going 3-2 last year with a 2.60 ERA. He tossed 69.1 innings and struck out 75.
He's spent parts of 11 seasons in the majors with the Mets, Astros, Rockies, Rays and Braves. He sat out the 2020 COVID-shortened season and has a career 3.68 ERA in 308 games.
Fried was excellent in his return for the Braves on Monday, who beat the Padres, 2-0. He went five innings, allowing no runs on four hits, with no walks and five strikeouts. He threw 79 pitches in the outing, 55 of which were for strikes.
While all this is good news for the first-place (13-4) Braves, they still are without several key players, including closer Raisel Iglesias, catcher Travis D'Arnaud and starting shortstop Orlando Arcia, who has a microfracture in his left wrist.
The Braves and Padres will play each other again tonight at 9:40 p.m. ET.
