Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Liam Hendriks recently provided an update on his battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma on his Instagram account.

Hendriks' post includes a picture of him wearing a t-shirt that reads "Close Out Cancer", with a caption in which he shared some thoughts on his cancer diagnosis and battle with the disease.

Hendriks' caption reads:

"Cancer is scary… and weird… and hard. Treatment is tough. If you’ve ever been thru this, you know what I’m talking about. As a patient, a caregiver, or friend- it takes it toll on all of us.

My update: I’m just trying to take it day by day and stay positive… and make a few jokes inbetween.

But I just wanted to let you know how much your support has encouraged me since my diagnosis."

Last month, Hendriks revealed that he had been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

Hendriks had a throwing session Sunday.

“He’s already said it, ‘I’m going to pitch this year," White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal told NBC Sports Chicago's Chuck Garfein. "I’m going to keep going. I’m going to pitch this year.’ It’s very uplifting for sure.”

Hendriks signed a three-year, $54 million contract with the White Sox in January 2021. Without Hendriks in the early part of the season, the White Sox will count on Kendall Graveman, Aaron Bummer, Joe Kelly, Reynaldo Lopez and Jake Diekman, pitching out of the club's bullpen.

Garrett Crochet, the no. 11 overall pick of the 2020 MLB Draft out of Tennessee, is recovering from Tommy John surgery, and is expected to miss the start of the season. However, once he makes his return, he could emerge as the team's ninth-inning closer.

The White Sox will play their first spring training game Sat., Feb. 25 against the San Diego Padres.
